In case any readers still need a gift for someone, and you’re stuck on what to give, here are my suggestions.

At the risk of embarrassing CGO Contributors, I want to highlight their books.

First, do you know someone who could benefit from wisdom about dating, sourced in Scripture, and written in form that is both very funny and practical?

Do you have a friend who is single or single again? What if you could give that person a book that is wise, understanding, written from the same place in life, and yet full of hope in Jesus and the rich life that one can have—single—now? What if that book were written with grace, fresh writing and humor? Check out Leigh McLeroy's Moments for Singles.

Do you have a friend or family member who loves worship, particularly one who loves to play music? Reggie Kidd’s excellent new book, With One Voice, might be a good fit.

Apologetics. Defending the Faith. Knowing God. If these are topics that interest a friend, why not give him or her Longing to Know by Professor Esther Meek? Widely acclaimed as very accessible writing about a deep, substantive topic, Longing to Know is an “aha!” book for many.

What about Harvard and Christianity? Some say God is not at Harvard. Kelly Monroe Kullberg says otherwise. Kelly invited a bunch of brilliant Christians who are Harvard grads, professors, or trustees to write about Finding God at Harvard.

Questions about opportunities for women? Do you want to know more about what the Bible teaches us about women? Check out Carolyn Custis James’ When Life and Beliefs Collide and her subsequent Lost Women of the Bible.

How should twenty-something Christians navigate life? High school and college had a lot of scripting, but now you’re out on your own. What would a life of wisdom look like? How can a twenty-something Christian flourish in different areas of life? Doug Serven and Craig Dunham point the way in their acclaimed Twenty-Someone.

Lastly, check out Eric O. Jacobsen’s Sidewalks in the Kingdom if you want a primer on thinking through urban living as a path for following Jesus.
